In a new report, Research and Markets estimates that the total market for telecoms in Ireland is EUR 3.4 billion, the majority of which is from the mobile sector worth EUR 1.5 billion across O2, Vodafone and Meteor.


As telecoms look to cut costs and increase market share they are seeking out new methods to help increase revenue. The long fought battle between fixed and mobile operators continues with telecom providers realigning and improving their offerings in order to remain competitive. The report predicts that the success of broadband and related offerings such as VoIP will continue to have significant impact on strategic directions that telecom providers take.

In conclusion the report predicts that of all industry verticals, the telecommunications sector has the highest IT spend on servers and storage solutions and a lower proportion of IT spend on PC’s and printers over other verticals. Total IT Investment by the main telecom providers is estimated at EUR 158million in 2005 of which 54% will be invested in hardware.
