Getting customers to download songs, videos or games to their cellphones has long been a goal of mobile phone companies and content providers, but hooking merchants up with potential customers has always been a challenge, and mobile commerce has remained a niche.

W-HA, a subsidiary of France Télécom, says it has a solution - Europe’s first multicarrier mobile phone and Internet payment system. W-HA acts as a middleman and connects the customers of French mobile phone companies and Internet service providers, including Orange, the France Télécom mobile unit, as well as its French rival SFR and the German ISP T-Online’s French unit, with the merchants.
